In August of 1896, gold was discovered in the Yukon, spurring a boom in Seattle- freshly stolen from the Duwamish tribes. More than a hundred years later, another gold rush fueled by the rise of the Technorati in the Age of Amazon is pushing our town to burst at its seams. A history of economic prosperity is tarred by inequalities across the board, a loss of history and culture, and a general lack of community otherwise dubbed “The Seattle Freeze.”
At Gold Bar we rearrange our collective value system: a conversation over an email, a neighbor over a neighborhood, a new friend over another dollar, a frozen slushy over the Seattle Freeze. All that is gold may not always glitter.
